ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating. Ladies, Free Skating

Chelyabinsk to Welcome Top Figure Skaters of the World

On September 12’14, Traktor Arena in Chelyabinsk will be hosting an ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating event. This high-profile event will feature top athletes of the world representing 30 countries.

ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating is one of the major elements of the international figure skating calendar. The competitions have been held since autumn 1997. This year the International Skating Union has entrusted the right to host one of the Grand Prix Series events to Chelyabinsk. It should be noted that all skaters successful at the Senior level competed at this event. They have become the champions and medal-winners of the Olympic Games, World Championships, and prestigious commercial tournaments.

The international Grand Prix Series is mostly held in European cities, as well as those of the USA and Japan. This season, Russia will be hosting two major international events with the senior Grand Prix being held in Moscow and the junior competition in Chelyabinsk.

Chelyabinsk’s Traktor Arena will be hosting the world’s top juniors aged 13—19 from more than 30 countries. They will be competing for 4 medal sets – in single skating (men and ladies), pair skating and ice dance. The event will be broadcast live by Channel One Russia.

Chelyabinsk has already hosted major competitions. In January and December 2016, Traktor Arena saw the national junior championships and the Russian Championships. However, this will be the first time for the South Ural capital to be hosting an international figure skating event.
